You can use Network Policy Server (NPS) to perform authentication and authorization for connection requests from users and computers that attempt to connect to your wireless local area network (WLAN) through 802.1X wireless access points (APs). When used with strong authentication methods, 802.1X APs and NPS provide additional security for wireless connections. All credentials, such as user name and password or certificates, are passed from the AP to NPS in an encrypted Transport Layer Security (TLS) channel, and the AP does not open the virtual port to your network until after users are authenticated and authorized to connect.
