Access can import a table schema (XSD) or table data (XML) file. However, there are conditions where Access cannot import the content of these files if the content is not well-formed. To determine if the file is well-formed, open the document in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later. If the document opens without an error, it most likely is well-formed. In the following example, though the XML is valid, it does not contain enough information to create a table:
