This purpose of this phase of the cycle is to understand the customer, the customer's Critical To Quality (CTQ) issues, and also understand the core business process involved in the project. At the end of this phase, the team should have a charter that describes what is in/out of scope and the start/stop points of the business process. They will also develop a process flow map during this phase.
