Create a mailbox. Instead of moving existing mailboxes in your on-premises %BRAND_EXCHANGE_ONLINE_SHORT% organization to %BRAND_OFFICE_365_SHORT%, you can use the New Remote Mailbox wizard in the EMC to create mailboxes in %BRAND_OFFICE_365_SHORT% for users, and then import their mailbox content. These mailboxes are called remote mailboxes, and they are managed in your on-premises Active Directory. Active Directory synchronization automatically synchronizes this new mail user object to the %BRAND_OFFICE_365_SHORT% service, which then converts it to an %BRAND_OFFICE_365_SHORT% user mailbox.
