Cross list queries initiated by the Content Query Web Part or other custom implementations can use up server resources. Specifying an amount of time to cache the results of a cross list query can positively impact cross-list query performance but may display results that do not reflect the most recent changes to the items returned by the query. Checking the server each time cross list query runs will produce the most accurate results at the possible cost of slower performance across the site.
