After launching Speech Recognition, the first thing you need to do is tell the computer to start listening.

When you click the microphone button, it changes color to blue and you will see "Listening" in the feedback area. Now the computer is listening. When you're done with Speech Recognition, say "Stop Listening" or click the microphone button again. The button changes back from blue to gray and the text says "Off", indicating that the computer is not listening.

(Note: if you are unable to use a mouse or keyboard, or if you prefer not to, you can enable 'voice activation'. In this mode, the command "Start Listening" can be used to tell the computer to listen. See the Help documentation for more details.)
