You can view and manage IP addresses by their defined range. An IP address range is typically a DHCP scope or static IP address pool used to assign addresses to hosts. In IPAM, IP address ranges are assigned to parent IP address blocks. If overlapping ranges exist, you can uniquely identify these ranges using the managed by service and service instance properties of an IP address range. In this way, IPAM enables you to manage address ranges that are provided by many heterogeneous systems. Only one overlapping IP address range can map to an IP address block. Other overlapping IP address ranges are automatically displayed as unmapped address space. Utilization statistics are automatically provided for IP address ranges provided by DHCP scopes configured on Microsoft DHCP servers. Statistics for other IP address ranges are provided based on utilization trends for IP addresses that are assigned to the IP address range. You can also choose to turn off automatic utilization calculation and update these statistics manually.
