Domain Name System (DNS) Servers store data about resources mapping DNS names of resources to other associated information, such the mapping of computer's DNS name to its IP address. DNS Servers also respond to queries from DNS Clients with data about a resource to provide name resolution for TCP/IP based networks. The Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and DNS Server roles can be installed on the same server and be configured to integrated together, allowing the DNS Server to take advantage of benefits of AD DS such as multiple authoritative sources of DNS data, enhanced security and AD DS replication and synchronization. An Active Directory integrated DNS Server setup is recommended.
